World Children's Day 2017: Kinderzauber at Dschungel Wien
Successful special screening of Kinderzauber and presentation of the Kinderzauber DVD Art Booklet in a completely sold-out house, filled with positive, warm atmosphere and lots of children's laughter. Special highlight for the audience: Ilvy, Johanna, Lena, Leonard, Maximilian and Tara — actors and actresses in "Kinderzauber", (now grown into teenagers :o) joined Ruth Rieser to welcome the audience and spoke about their shared work, the making of the feature film and the Art Booklet. Deborah Carmichael, who composed the "Song for Ruth", told the children how this song came to be and became the opening music of the film. Link to the event here.
Inhalt
It is summer. "Circus Dimitri" has arrived in the children's realm. But where are the children? "No one here," clown Leon notes sadly, and sets off to find them. Mysterious things happen by day and by night. One by one the children are drawn into visibility. They delight in play, in nature, and experience adventures. The adults eke out their existence in their own world, within the "frames". Full of joy, the children unfold their special power and let their dreams become reality.
"Magic of Children" — a playfully poetic film, yet also a heartfelt appeal to the "grown-ups". (Text: Christine Geserick)
Children's creativity not just as fiction Ruth Rieser's film reminds us how beautiful it is to be allowed to be a child. In doing so, the filmmaker presents children's creativity not merely as fiction. She chose a very special approach: Eight of the child actors co-wrote the story. From there, the creative process of all the children continued during filming alongside the professional film team. Each child also designed their own costume in collaboration. Ruth Rieser creates atmosphere and a protected space in which the children's free play finds expression. The children's dialogues are developed by the children themselves. In a creative dynamic between the director and the children, Ruth Rieser is continually surprised — by a water creature or a figure of light (mime Samy Molcho) who appears in the forest and opens up worlds to them.
"Children have the right to play" Ruth Rieser's political commitment relates fundamentally to human rights, and specifically here to children's rights. The core message of the filmmaker and producer of "Magic of Children": "Children have the right to play. Through playing together, children learn." And they do — when given the space, as her film shows impressively and compellingly. It touches us in our own, mostly hidden and emotion-driven memories of our own childhood: "I hear the unspeakable in the words, in the laughter of the children," writes one viewer to Ruth Rieser. Another audience voice says: "This innocence in play speaks of a deep longing in the 'adult' and a fragrance of something eternal within them." "I want to stay here and be a child," says one of the children in the film. "Me too," we hear a child in the cinema hall affirming.
For children, educators, schools, kindergartens and other institutions, the "Magic of Children DVD Art Booklet" is an extraordinary product that provides a valuable basis for strengthening children and children's creativity.
